How it Works

Orc has been designed and built to cater for Nigerian environment and consumer. The foundation of the product is high security and encryption, multiple channel support (GPRS, WAP, SMS) and a high quality end user interface.

Orc Security

Orc Mobile ensures that all transactional data is encrypted from and to the mobile device. In addition, all transactional processing is carried out within the bank’s firewall and not on the handset. Orc also has its own embedded security layer that is U.S. Government NIST certified mobile security technology. We use the latest FIPS 140-2 recommended key strengths and algorithms for secure e-commerce, as you will find in the very latest web browsers.

Handset Security

Orc has also implemented a variety of security measures that are activated on the mobile phone itself to protect consumer data, including:

  • PIN authorization and lockout
  • Deactivation in event of theft or loss
  • Encryption of locally stored data
  • Secure registration of mobile phones
Applications and Updates

The user interface is a well-defined, menu driven application that provides access to a rich feature set of banking tools and services. The end user experience is designed around “push” technology. When an updated version of the application is available, or additional payment merchants are added to the platform, the application is sent to the customer’s handset, whereby it overwrites and automatically updates the existing Orc application.

Supported platforms

Presently, Orc is supporting Blackberry and Nokia E Series handsets and we will shortly be releasing applications for Windows Mobile and Symbian phones.

Orc works in conjunction with its partner banks to ensure the Orc M Commerce applicationis distributed to the banking retail clientele.
